Corporate Developments

1971 Orion Marine Corp’s predecessor was founded in Chicago by Peter Schauer its current CEO and owner.

1971 Represented Swedish Lloyd and their newly inaugurated Europe/Great Lakes service. The first cellular ship HARTFORD EXPRESS (260 teu) discharged in port of Chicago and left with full compliment for Rotterdam and Hamburg. Two additional ships followed of which one was icebound near Quebec.

1972 Represented nearly every new North Atlantic liner service before operators quit.

1975 Due to very strong demand for Iran signed agreement with Soviet rail operator Sojuzvneshtrans from Finland to Djulfa on Iranian border as an alternative to costly and congested normal routing via Persian Gulf ports.

1975 Established six US branch offices, a European liaison office as well as a Teheran branch.

1975 Assumed representation of German container lessor Contrans, a Hapag-Lloyd subsidiary.

1975 Space Charter agreements signed in Leningrad with Baltic Shipping Co specifically for Iran transit cargo using leased containers from North America to Iran with drop off in Japan.

1976 Space charter agreement with Blasco, Odessa signed for transport USA/Istanbul for Iran cargo.

1976 Represented CGTB, a CGM subsidiary, with their two modern Ro-Ro ships from USWC to Japan and Korea.
